A little historical background on the NYC Veterans Day Parade and the Wounded Warrior Project...

Hi Everyone,
Just wanted to blog about this weeks event that being the annual NYC Veterans Day Parade. Since there is so much historical background on this event, I thought it would be interesting to give you an insight on the activities that are leading up to it and also tell you about the Wounded Warrior Project. There will be a lot going on through out the week and hopefully by reading about it, it can motivate you to come and join in on honoring all those that have served. So with that mentioned, below you will find some information on what the Wounded Warrior Project is about and also some historical aspects of how the parade came about to be.

Mission:
"To Honor and Empower Wounded Warriors"

Vision:
"To foster the most successful, well-adjusted generation of wounded warriors in this nation's history."

Purpose:
1)To raise awareness and enlist the public's aid for the needs of injured service members.
2)To help injured service members aid and assist each other.
3)To provide unique, direct programs and services to meet the needs of injured service members

"November 11, 2011 marks the 92st Anniversary of The New York City Veterans Day Parade. The parade is hosted by the United War Veterans Council, Inc. on behalf of the City of New York. It is the oldest and largest of its kind in the nation. Since November 11, 1919, the parade has provided an opportunity for Americans and International visitors to honor those who have served, preserving our freedoms and defending our democracy. From its modest beginnings, a year after the Armistice was signed that concluded World War I, the parade has grown not just in scope and scale, but in national importance. The NYC Veterans Day Parade has endured and been a constant through war times and times of peace. It is a Veterans Day ritual for hundreds of thousands of New Yorkers, Armed Service Members, their families and tourists. It is widely covered by local and national media. The Parade has always been a reflection of New York City's sense of patriotism, community spirit and respect for The Flag. Participating in this high-energy commemoration is a great way for everyone to thank all those who served our country."
