Join me and the Wounded Warrior Project today in honoring all that have served at the NYC Veterans Day Parade - it all starts at 10am :)

Hi Everyone,
Today is the day! Really excited, honored, and humbled that I will be able to walk in the NYC Veterans Day parade with the Wounded Warrior Project Organization. Honestly, I'm still mind boggled by it all and can't help but wonder if this is for real as it feels very surreal. Anyhow, I just wanted to blog a bit before I am on my way about the significance of what exactly we are honoring today; that being veterans. I know it's probobly quite difficult for many to be able to relate or even have it be tangible in some way in your life - and that's ok. You see I can honestly say that I myself wouldn't really know how to understand it had it not been for my sister (who married a serviceman) and brother in law (who served in the Navy 12 years and went on 5 deployments). Civilian and military life are two completely different worlds and being that they are so different, it's only normal that the two may not be able to fully comprehend one another.
But civilian or military life there is something that we all have in common and that we share everyday. What is it you ask? It is the fact that we are able to live a certain quality of life that so many hope to have. Everyday we have the option to choose what we are going to do that day. What ever you choose, be it for the better or for the worse, obviously that is in one's decision making but the whole point of it all is that we live in a country where we have that "option." There are countries where technically speaking (especially as a woman) there is no "option." In other words, we have the freedom to chose to do what ever we would like to do. We have that "option" not because we are any better then anyone, not because we are entitled to have it but simply because there are men, women, and K-9 teams that have worked so hard so we can have an "option." Those men, women, and K-9 teams are veterans.
With this mentioned even though I understand there are many that may not have any kind of military affiliation in any way - that's ok, as one doesn't really need to have that when becoming aware of just how lucky we are to be able to have "options" on a daily basis. I hope with this blog I have at least somewhat brought a certain awareness or inspired in some way to really think about our veterans/their spouses and what exactly it is they do and how it impacts you in every way, every day.
