Pets For Patriots!! A new amazing organization...

Hello again,
I just wanted to write about a new organization, called Pets for Patriots because I find the work that they are doing quite wonderful. Their goal is to match shelter pets with veterans - but what is unique is that their focus is for pets that are older and harder to find homes for and other "at-risk" pets that would otherwise not be able to find their forever home. I invite you to take a look at their website and see if you may be able to help. Since this is a new organization they are still in their toddler phase and growing so any help that you may be able to offer I am sure would be greatly appreciated.
They have just begun recruiting for volunteers and there really is something for everyone. From event planing, to cyber research, to marketing, or community outreach. So take a peak at their website as I am sure not only will it be inspiring but also quite uplifting knowing your helping both the pet and the soldier come "home."
Sincerely,nency

Until Tuesday....Just a perfect story of veterans and pets :)

Hello and welcome back!
So earlier this week, I received the weekly update of all the headline news for veterans and I was super excited about the book release that was sent as it directly links to my platform. The best part of this is that this is REAL, true story of how a soldier and a dog healed one another. It is amazing to me how there are soooo many veterans out there and when they come back out of all the medical prescriptions that are given to them the one that has been so far more successful has been the one that consists of a pet companion.
It's the human/animal bond that is difficult to explain yet obviously so real that it helps even our bravest men and women in healing and getting better. Mr. Montalvan is a clear example of all this and I can't help but be excited to hear his story as I have heard so many in the past of how animals have had a positive impact in their lives. The book, Until Tuesday will be released on May 3rd. There will be a reading and signing this Thursday in NYC at the Animazing Gallery, 54 Greene Street, New York, NY 10013. This will be an event that is sure to be inspiring and uplifting. I'll be sure to recap and have pics :) Excited!!
Until then, cheers- nency

My new reading... "The Bond" by Wayne Pacelle

Hello everyone,
So I wanted to share my new read that I just bought last week. I haven't finished it yet but I must say so far, it has not only been very intellectually stimulating but also enlightening as this book is written in such a poetic manner. All the words seem to just "flow" well and the concepts of the animal care/welfare is very clear for everyone to understand. I had heard of the release for this book some time ago, and now that it is finally available, I'm excited to read through it and acquire a more depth insight on "the bond" of humans/animals and how all this began.
I have always believed that there is a certain kinship in this kind of relationship simply because I have seen it time and time again. There is something about animals  and what they can teach us about life that I think is quite special. I think it is simply because they really do have a good sense of what "unconditional love" really is. Even in cases where they may have had a difficult journey, with patience they can come back and be so unforgiving. There are so many stories of how animals have helped in healing and taking care of people that it's quite confusing to see how they are treated otherwise by people themselves. I suppose this is what this book is trying to detangle and bring light to how we can go about acknowledging the bond that there is between humans and animals and how we can nurture it and see it grow. Even though we are of two different species, I  do believe that humans are unique - unique in that we are the only species that can choose to make things better.  With that mentioned, I think where much has been given, much is expected and we really do have a responsibility to care for those that are more vulnerable. Why else would we have been given so much options otherwise?? Makes sense right- I think so..
Anyhow, so in the meantime, I'll keep reading and keep you posted on what I find in the second chapter...
Cheers for now, nency

Revlon NYC Run/Walk For Cancer 2011....

Hello!!
Today was a day filled all in Red as the Revlon Run/Walk took place beginning in Times Square and ending in the majestic Central Park. The weather was wonderful and joining me was my little shadow (my doggie) Little Miss. Sparkles. Together with hundreds of people, we were able to walk form Times Square to Central Park to help fundraise for womens' cancers. There were tents of various organizations and sponsors and also a stage for where those who had survived the illness had an opportunity to share their stories. It was not only humbling to hear other speak about their personal journey but also I must say I couldn't help but feel grateful and blessed for the life I have had so far.
I think so many times it is so easy to get caught up with all the day to day "little things" that we tend to forget about focusing on the BIG picture. So hopefully this little post of mine can help in rekindling a new perspective on just being grateful of all the things we currently have as if you take a closer look you'll realize it is probably a lot more then you originally realized...
Thought this picture summed up the event - only in NYC! :)

Yorkie 911 Rescues Rock The Runway...

Hello Everyone,
Just wanted to mention a wonderful event that is coming up.. This event is especially dear to me as everyone knows my affinity I have towards animals but especially these little Yorkies. For those of you that really know me, know the sunshine of my life that is named Little Miss. Sparkles. Who is she you ask? She is my 6 year old Yorkie who I just loooove so so much as she has been there with me through it all - a little background of her. After I graduated from art school, the one thing that I really, really wanted with all my heart was a dog. I know many college grads go on fancy vacations and do all sorts of fun things but what I longed for was a dog. Growing up with pets it was really awkward not having one and I missed it, so I had promised myself once I graduated I would get a dog. After 2 years of looking and with some help of saving some money and a portion of what I had left from my student loan I planned it all out and was able to get Little Miss. Sparkles and make sure all her food, toys, and vet bills were taken care of. And to this day I remember when I got her, she was a tiny little thing- weighing only 1.5 pds and now she's 8pds! She's all grown up! So it's for all those little yorkies that still need loving homes that we are doing this event as fundraising will help 911 Yorkie Rescue continue to do their work of finding homes for them. With that mentioned here is the info you'll need to come out and  in their words, "Help Pawtect those that can't pawtect themselves" These little guys really need us to help them out as if we don't, no one else will. Tickets are still on sale and we will have some at the door but, no reason why you should wait as this event will be bundles of fun and it's all for a good cause...See you there! Below is a picture of my little sunshine, Little Miss. Sparkles :)

Supporting our troops and helping them keep their families together...

Hello Everyone,
I just received a email today and thought I needed to post this because for me, this is what the Ms. NY United States title is about. It is  about my platform,  "Uplifting Heroes" which I soo much love and want to share it with everyone. I received a email regarding a dog named Corona who is currently looking for/needs a short term foster home for August-0ctober. Corona needs this home not because her owner is giving her up in any way but because her owner is in the Army and will be deployed come August. For those of you that really know me, you know that for me pets are part of the family and with that said I'm really hoping to help keep this family together by finding a temporary foster home so Corona and her pet guardian can stay together.
As I have mentioned before, there are many ways we can support our troops but I really can't think of a better way then to help keep their families together. Below is the info for Corona, if you need more info, just email me and I would gladly direct you to the NY State director... Thanks to all for your ongoing support of our service members and their beloved pets, they really appreciate it!

Corona's Details:
Corona the female black lab (7 years and 51-60 pounds) needs a short-term foster home for August through October. Corona would do best in a foster home with no other pets, she is house trained/crate trained, good with young children, knows basic commands such as sit/laydown/stay/give me 5, loves Milkbone treats and eats 2'x a day..

NYC Vegetarian Food Festival..

Hello To All,
Just wanted to give a BIG thanks to Ms. Nira Palowida and the NYC Food Festival committee for having me at their event. What an amazing turn out we had- soooo many people came out to see what the vegetarian buzz is about. Vendors, speakers, and so many interesting demonstrations that took place today. I think we will all have to agree that next year we will need a bigger venue as the place was at it's capacity and did I mention that there was a line outside that went all a full block just to get in! Congrats to Ms. Palowida for such a successful event and thanks again for allowing me to share the big day! Bundles of fun- see you all next year!
Cheers, nency
